TRPN News: Texas Regional Pathways Network Focus on College and Career Advising

Vol. 2, Iss. 5 | January 2021

RGV LEAD, Jobs for the Future, and The Texas Education Agency met with the Texas Regional Pathways Network (TPRN) districts to continue working on the TRPN grant. The focus of the meeting was to review which TRPN objectives have been covered since the grant was put into place and to revisit College and Career Advising. The Texas Education Agency has this to say about College and Career Advising.

“High-quality professional school counseling is an integral component to a comprehensive education for Texas students. College and career advising is a key component of comprehensive school counseling programs that are also necessary to implement high-quality pathways for students. Through individualized advising, students can learn about a range of college and career options—and the education requirements linked to careers of interest—through a sequence of developmentally appropriate activities. This continuum begins with career awareness and exploration in elementary school and progresses to comprehensive college and career advising in middle and high school.”

School districts participating in the TRPN grant are North cluster Lasara, San Isidro, and San Perlita. Representing the South cluster are La Feria, Rio Hondo, and Santa Rosa.
